Date Night at Blossom Cafe

Hey All! Happy August! I hope you had a great weekend! Thanks for all the feedback on my food/exercise journal. I am going to try to post another one this week, but I have so many yummy food pics from the weekend that this might be a busy week on the blog! ;)

On Saturday night, T and I had our second date night since the baby was born (8 months ago!). Ha! We went into the city and hit up Blossom Cafe. We have been to the other Blossom location in the past, so we knew we were in for some good eats.
I started off with the Raw Sweet Potato rolls. Oh. My. Gosh!!!! I've heard of few bloggers say they were delicious, but man, I almost couldn't believe it until I tasted them! The sweet potato was so thin and soft, how do they do it? And they dipping sauce, I wanted to lick the tin! LOL!
For my entree, I wasn't as impressed. They only had 3 gluten free options. One was a raw pasta (which is probably the only raw dish I am not a fan of), the other was Spaghetti Squash Alfredo which I was afraid would be too rich. So I opted for the BBQ glazed tempeh over greens and roasted potatoes. The tempeh was really soft and flavorful but a little too much sauce. The greens and potatoes were excellent, but the presentation, reminded me too much of meat.
T had ordered a crostini tapas plate which he really liked and the soy bacon cheeseburger which he loved! :) For dessert we shared a Butterfinger Milkshake! This was heaven! Tasted exactly like I remember Butterfingers to taste like!
We had a really nice time! I can't wait for our next date night (hopefully not too far from now!).

This meal was from dinner one night last week. A Buddha bowl with raw kale, hummus, avocado, tomatoes from my garden, olives, millet and kidney beans.
In my food journal I mentioned an eggplant dish I had for dinner. I sauteed some eggplant from my garden with olive oil and garlic and added some crumbled tempeh, tomato sauce, fresh home grown basil and cooked quinoa. Delicious! :)
I think I am at my soy quota for awhile. I get really phlegmy (sorry TMI!), and my stomach tends to bloat when I have it. Oh well, I only have it once in awhile. Do you have any reactions when you have soy?
Have a great day all! XO

I'd love to get to Blossom some day soon; it sounds like there is so much great stuff. The eggplant dish you made looks great too.

I switched off soy milk to rice milk for fear of overdoing the soy. :D (pre-emptive strike!Ha! Take THAT, Soy!)

those sweet potato rolls do look so good! I'm not a huge tempeh fan but bummer it wasn't all that great. Butterfinger? yummers! As for soy anything, no neg reactions. I don't consume much of it but did have an organic soy hot chocolate today. Yum!

I loved the regular Blossom but haven't eaten at the Cafe. It looks great though. I am making an eggplant dish right now from "The Indian Slowcooker" book. "Fiery Eggplant". I go back & forth on soy. I tend to eat a lot of nuts if I try to eat mostly raw and then I figure I should be having tofu pudding with stevia instead of raw cashew creme or avocados!! I don't know if it bothers me, but probably if I eat too much. But I don't do anything more processed than tofu or tempeh, which can even be made at home, so it's not like crazy processed!

I'm jealous. I didn't get my first date night with my hubby after Hayden was born until she was 9 months old. I know how important those can be. Glad to hear you're finding time for them again.

Those sweet potato wraps look interesting. Raw sweet potato never digested well for me, which is why I still eat them cooked. I wonder if I'd be okay with those rolls.

I also don't do so well with soy. I only have it on occasion when I'm out somewhere.
