Attempts at More Protein

*****UPDATED WITH THE EMAIL BACK FROM LARABAR*****

Happy Friday!

I forgot to give you all an update on the Larabar situation. In one of my posts earlier this week, I had mentioned that some of the new flavors from Larabar had "May contain milk" printed on the label. I am assuming this is because they use chocolate chips (but why couldn't they use vegan chocolate chips?). Anyway, General Mills bought Larabar in 2008, and for that reason, this doesn't surprise me. I did send an email to the company with my concerns and I will post their reply when/if they get back to me.

***I just got an email from Larabar, here is their response:

Thank you for contacting Larabar concerning the ingredients in our products. As manufacturers and consumers, we understand your concern about potential allergens in the foods you eat. Our primary goal is to provide accurate information, and we believe this is best accomplished by referring to the specific ingredients listed on each product package. This is the most current information for your needs.

The chocolate chips we buy are produced on equipment that also processes chocolate with milk and soy ingredients. Neither we nor our ingredient supplier can assure that there is no cross contact with milk or soy ingredients in the chocolate chips. We will continue to look for a solution that will allow us to keep dairy/soy free and vegan claims on the package.

Our products are labeled for the top 8 allergens (peanuts, tree nuts, dairy products, eggs, soy, wheat, crustaceans, and fish) plus sesame, sunflower and mollusks. We label for these allergens using CONTAINS and/or MAY CONTAIN lists located directly below the product’s ingredient list.

CONTAINS means that the allergen(s) is included in the product’s recipe. The allergen(s) will be listed in the ingredient list, and also in the CONTAINS statement just below the ingredient list.

MAY CONTAIN means that the allergen(s) is not in the product’s recipe but could be present as result of the manufacturing process regardless of our best efforts to exclude it. These allergens will not be included in the ingredient list.

Both CONTAINS and MAY CONTAIN mean that if you are sensitive to the specific allergen(s) in the list, no matter which way it is listed, you should avoid this product.

This ingredient and allergen information is for the package in hand. It is not intended for other packages of the same product. Ingredients may vary from one package to another due to product reformulation. If you have allergy concerns, please carefully read the ingredient information on each package.

We hope this information helps you. You may also want to contact the Food Allergy & Anaphylaxis Network (FAAN) at 1-800-929-4040, or visit their web site at www.foodallergy.org. Although they cannot provide specific ingredient information regarding a particular product, they are a good resource to help in the management of your allergies and sensitivities.

We appreciate your interest. Please contact us again with any further questions or comments.

Sincerely,

Pat Frances
Consumer Services

Hmm, thoughts? This sounds better, but I still don't like it. I might actually eat the newer bars now (or at least try them) because the risk of contamination is very small and since I am not allergic to dairy, I don't have to worry.

Anyway, I haven't posted any nursery updates because T and his father are still working on the same thing, so no changes. But, I promise I'll post a picture when we've made more progress. :)

Oh and P.S. We are keeping the baby's name a secret until she is born! ;)

Anyway, the weather has been a little better here. Still in the 80's but at least we are getting a tiny break from the humidity. In an attempt to get some Vitamin D, Ginger and I sat in the yard for a little. I love watching her explore, she smells every flower we have, it's really sweet. She found my ever growing lavender and was really digging the scent!
I've been trying to get some more protein, since it's vital right now in my pregnancy. One of my favorite snacks right now is celery with raw almond butter and raisins, AKA: Ants on a Log. I am getting mommy practice too!
I also made some tempeh as a side dish to a big kale salad I made for dinner the other night. As many of you know, I don't have soy often, and when I do, I prefer tempeh since it is fermented and doesn't bother my stomach. I sauteed it with olive oil, coconut aminos and seasoning, then I drizzled lemon juice on top. The kale salad was made with lacinato kale, garden tomatoes, hemp seeds, olives, and raw pickles.
More protein! Another snack I made: gluten free millet bread with raw almond butter, raisins and bee pollen. I've been snacking on raisins a lot for iron, got to store up for childbirth!
What is everyone doing this weekend? I have a graduation party to go to on Saturday and I hope to check out a new vegan restaurant (with many raw options) down at the shore. Finally, my favorite news this week: next Wednesday I am going to an Ani Phyo lecture!!! It's about 20 minutes from me in NJ, my mother in law and I already bought tickets! There will be a book signing at the end, I hope to get a few pictures with her as well. I will have a full blog post on it next week! Can't wait! Have a great one!

Butterflies in my belly!

Hello Wednesday!

How are you all doing? I am doing great! This little girl is moving around like a butterfly inside my belly. Her movements are becoming more and more like thumps and I notice them a lot more often then before. I love it! Total bliss! <3 I posted this on my Facebook page the other day and it got a lot of laughs: I was laying on the couch with my belly out and Ginger came over and gently placed her paw on my stomach. Then she started making strange noises. T and I couldn't stop laughing. We said she was either saying "Hello" or "Stay in there as long as possible be-otch!" Ha ha! Ginger, the original diva!

Anyway, I am in love with the kale chips I picked up at the health food store over the weekend. They are so cheesy and filled with crunch and flavor. I know it's super easy to make them at home, but they always taste better when I buy them.
Here is the bag, if you see these around definitely grab some! They had a few other flavors as well. I hope to get more this weekend.
I've also been enjoying the chai "raweos" I picked up. These are a little too spicy, but still delicious. I think next time I will get the chocolate flavor.
And that yummy almond raisin raw cookie I bought. These are the perfect after dinner treat along side a nice cup of Pregnancy Tea!
Speaking of Ginger.. here is the diva in action. "It's too early for pictures, mama!"
Yesterday I enjoyed a big bowl of Canary Melon. My Whole Foods had a few different melons this week and I picked up this yellow gem. The flavor is similar to a honeydew, but I found it to be sweeter. YUM!
My lovely friend Julia surprised me when she sent me these two adorable organic onsies for the baby! She even bought them off of my registry! She is so thoughtful, and her gluten free-vegan baked goods are amazing! Serious talent from this lady!!!

Have a nice day everyone!

Eats, Movies and The Holistic Healing Expo

Happy Monday everyone! I hope you all had a wonderful weekend! I started mine off with a delicious green smoothie: Kale, Young Thai Coconut Water and Meat, Frozen Banana, Maca and Chocolate Sunwarrior Protein.
We picked some amazing tomatoes from our garden! The big ones are so flavorful, just like what a tomato should taste like. I am in love!
I found all the new flavors of Lara Bars at the health food store. To my disappointment all of them (except the Carrot Cake) state on the wrapper that they"May contain milk." That is really annoying. I didn't end up buying them and I plan on trying out the Carrot Cake flavor today. Would you eat something if it said "May contain milk?"
We didn't end up going to the hot air balloon festival because the temperature here was over 100 degrees and the air quality was terrible! Instead we went to the nice, cold movies and saw Inception. We really enjoyed it, seems like everyone is seeing it! Have you seen it? What did you think? Great ending!

On Sunday we headed to the shore to my Mother in laws house. First we stopped off and grabbed some juice. I got a "Lemon-made"--lemon, ginger, apple. So refreshing!
I also picked up these delicious snacks: A raw Cinnamon Raisin cookie, a package of Chai Raweos, and some Cheesy Kale Chips.
We went to the Holistic Healing Expo and I had a psychic reading. The reader told me that the baby and I had an agreement before I came to this life, and that I have never lived a more beautiful life then I will when she is born. She also told me I have lived many, many lives. When I asked her if I knew T before, she gave a giggle and a smile and said "Yes!" I wonder what that means? LOL!

I was handed this book, for free. Has anyone ever heard of it? Seems like some interesting stuff!
Of course I bought more healing stones. One is for cooling inflammation, another for auto-immune and the one for love.
Have a great day all!

Raw Eats and Treats

Happy Friday All! :)

I hope you all had a great week. I have lots of raw yummy meals to share, so I will get right to it.

My favorite lunch, kale salad: Raw pickles, Olives, Avocado, Fresh Tomato from my garden.
A delicious fruit bowl I snacked on one day: organic black figs and strawberries. By the way, I only buy organic produce and I am extra careful about this since I am pregnant. Just a little tidbit! ;)
I made some more of Ani Phyo's eggplant bacon. These are addicting! I never knew raw eggplant could be so tasty!
Another kale salad: raw pickles, olives, avocado and eggplant bacon.
I went back to buying the chocolate flavor Sunwarrior protein. I like to switch it up from vanilla sometimes. This smoothie was delicious: Spinach, Chocolate Sunwarrior, 3 frozen bananas, Almond milk, and a tablespoon of almond butter.
Last night I made Ani Phyo's raw corn tostadas! Topped with her amazing rawco meat, avocado, garden tomatoes and black olives. Sooooo goooood! Best dinner this week! ;)
Have a great weekend everyone! I am going to a hot air balloon festival on Saturday and on Sunday, I am going with my mother in law to a holistic healing expo. I'll report back with pictures, and stories! ;)

Growing Crazy!

Hey Beautiful People! Happy Monday! :)

I hope you all had a great weekend. We had another scorcher here in NJ, this has been the hottest Summer I can remember, and I don't think it's because I am pregnant! It seems like everyday we are breaking records, or coming close. I can't take it! I want to enjoy my Summer outside, not inside next to the AC! T and I did venture out a lot over the weekend, but it was so uncomfortable! Thank heaven for watermelon, my favorite way to cool down! :)

I thought I'd post an Oracle Card every so often for fun. I pulled this one the other day and thought it would be a good one to share: Believe in Yourself!: See yourself doing well, and you will. This is something I like to remind myself to do, I hope you all are believing in yourselves, you beautiful little sunshines!
Saturday morning I made a yummy smoothie: Frozen Pomegranate seeds, Banana, Almond Milk, Almond Butter and a scoop of Sunwarrior Protein.
I was so excited when I saw that Whole Foods had organic black figs this week! We have a fig tree in our yard, but we get green ones. I actually like the black ones better..shh! :)
On Sunday, T and I went to our favorite salad place for lunch. You can pick and choose what you want in your salad. I chose romaine, broccoli, shredded vegetables, chickpeas, olives, and olive oil and balsamic vinegar.
We HAVE TOMATOES! Well, 2 for now! One San Marzano and one Ramapo. Does anyone else LOVE the smell of a tomato plant? I like to go in the garden and rub my hands on the leaves so I can smell it on my hands all day! Mmm!
Here is an update on my out-of-control garden..
Grown tomatoes, grow!!!
Watermelon and Cantaloupe, we really didn't expect anything from these plants, but they are growing! I would loooove to bite into my own grown watermelon!
Eggplant.. we've had a few already..
Flowers in the yard.. Black Eyed Susan..
Echinacea flowers..

And we have SHEETROCK! Whooot whooot! Ha ha! We went to a few paint stores for color samples. Of course I will be using no VOC and odorless paint, as we did for the other rooms in our house. And yes, the walls will be pink!
Have a great day everyone!

Pulling Weeds, Planting Seeds

Happy Friday All! I'm so happy you all enjoyed the guest post by the lovely Pure2Raw ladies! :) They are amazing, aren't they?

I also wanted say, do not mind my little errors in spelling, grammar, punctuation. I've been blogging as soon as I wake up in the morning and my mind isn't all there yet. Plus, I barely proofread! Bad blogger! I notice all the errors after the post has been up for a few days! Opps! I'll blame pregnancy brain for that one!

This week has been quite interesting. I had my tarot cards read on Wednesday, and let's just say they were DEAD ON! As always the reader told me I am extremely psychic and I need to be more in tune with that. She also knew all the things I am working on right now and she said I am almost there, just keep checking them off! Phew, that felt good to hear!

More on that later.. this week I was craving soup! I know, 100 degrees..soup? YUP, when you are in the AC all day, it doesn't matter. Plus, I am pregnant, can't ignore those cravings! First up I made some Pasta Fagioli with gluten free pasta and spinach. Mmm..
Then I made some lentils with a ton of kale added to it. This was leftovers for a few days too. Even Ginger liked it! :)
Many of you commented on T actually gutting the room.. Did you think I was joking? LOL! ;) He means business!!! The problem is, we live in a really old house and the walls are plaster and basically not insulated. So T and I couldn't have our little Starshine being cold in the Winter! T insulated this week with a "green" insulation that contains no fiberglass. The REAL "green" thing to do would be to use denim insulation, but T has used that in a few houses and the home owners complain that their houses are always cold. So this was the 2nd greenest option. Believe me, this room has been sealed off, I haven't gone near the dust and we have the windows open so it is well ventilated.
Now onto the fun stuff! My dear friend Maria sent me this lovely gift.. I plan on putting it on a shelf in the baby's room. She is so sweet!
My Mother in Law and future sister in law came over this week and brought me these adorable slippers for the baby. I just die when I see them! Soooo cute! They also brought me a frame that says "Princess" on it, another thing for the shelf! :) I will be posting some fun things I get and find for the baby every so often, I hope you all don't mind! :)
We went to my favorite spiritual store in town and had our tarot cards read. We also did some shopping! I got this adorable journal: Pull Your Weeds, Plant Your Seeds. The journal has different exercises (along with blank pages) to help get rid of the bad and keep the good. What are your weeds and seeds? My list is too long to put here! HA HA!
In the back of the journal is a packet of seeds! A perfect way to represent planting seeds of positive energy and happiness in my mind!
I bought some new oracle cards too. I LOVE Doreen Virtue! Her cards are always so touching and beautiful. I already have her Angel Therapy cards. This time I bought her Magical Unicorn cards. Maria always refers to us in the process of healing from illness and dis-ease, "Unicorns" because we are special and different. I love that!
For the baby, I bought this beautiful angel. Again, for the shelf in her room (we might need more then one!). I plan on making the nursery very whimsical, with angels, butterflies and unicorns. Oh and of course PINK!
For over her crib I got a dream catcher. No bad dreams for my baby!
And finally, a little healing help for myself. Perfect scent for meditating!
Have a great weekend everyone!
