Good Food and a Good Friend!

Hey all! I hope you are having a great week! I know I am! :)

This was a juice I had earlier in the week: broccoli stems, romaine, apple, lemon. Before I took the picture I had to find my camera, hence the separation issue with the juice.
A few hours after the juice, I was feeling a little queasy. So I made some sprouted grain toast with avocado on top. I added lemon juice, Himalayan sea salt, ground pepper and cumin on top! Mmmm!
Like I mentioned in my last post, Maria came over to visit me!!! She is such a doll and Ginger and I both loved her! In fact, Ginger probably would of went home to live with her and Shorter! Ha ha! :) She was even lucky enough to meet T! HA HA! He also said she was so sweet and really nice.

We went and got salads for lunch and then walked over to my favorite new age/spiritual store. We both bought a few things, including some energy stones and and energy bracelet. She got one for "Pain" and I got one for "Health and Wellness." The stone on mine is quartz which is suppose to help with good health. I haven't taken it off since (they say not too). To add to my never ending collection of energy stones, I bought these 4, which are all for one thing.. ;) I keep them in a sachet in my purse and I take them out daily and hold them to receive the vibes I need.

For dinner last night I made some brown rice and added in black beans and kale. I topped it off with avocado and a little Bragg's. So comforting!
Have a nice day everyone!!!!

Bright Colors on a Grey Weekend

Hey All! I hope you had a great weekend! The weather was chilly and rainy here, yuck! I can't wait for the warmth to come back, this week!

The people at UliMana were nice enough to send me a package of their sampler: Tao of Cacao. Five of their most awesome treats: Goji Cherry Truffle and Dark Cacao Truffle, Chocolate Date Roll, Chia Moon Drop and Lemon Fig Pecan Bar. All were amazing! Everything from UliMana is raw, organic and handmade and they only use the purest of ingredients! Amen to that! I must say, avoiding cacao/chocolate is not working out for me! ;) (I am trying to avoid it while trying to conceive because I don't like the way eating a lot of it makes me feel.. kinda crazy.. but I am only enjoying it in small portions, so I am not getting that reaction). Anyway, my favorite was the Goji Cherry Truffle, actually, both truffles were so rich and decadent. Half a day was fulfilling enough for me!
I also really liked the Hemp Brownie, so creamy and rich, just like I remember them, only better! As UliMana says on their brochure, "Let Thy Dessert Be Thy Medicine!"
Over the weekend I also had a big kale salad. I added a Sunshine Burger, Raw Bubbies Pickles, Raw Beets and lemon juice. So pretty, so delicious.
Last night I made a big bowl of Millet and had Broccolini on top with lots of garlic. Someone asked me recently what Broccolini tastes like. I would say it's a combination of asparagus and broccoli, crunchy and pungent. I love the stuff!
Ginger sleeping on top of the couch yesterday, rainy day comfort. Sorry for the bad picture, this was taken on T's Blackberry. Ginger didn't mind! ;)
Have a nice day everyone! Maria and I are going to lunch and to my favorite new age spiritual store! Yay!

Spring Break, with no Spring!

Hey Everyone! Happy Friday! Finally! I'm looking forward to the next week because I am on Spring Break! No work for me and I have plenty of fun stuff planned! Including a visit from my dear friend, Maria! Maria and I only met in the last year (online) and ironically she lives 2 towns over from my parents in NJ. So she is going to come up (I am only 40 min from her) and we are going to have some fun! Also, I am getting my hair done, a manicure and pedicure (my salon is eco friendly--score!), and a few other fun things. Mostly though, I can't wait to sleep a little extra everyday! ;)

For dinner earlier this week I made sweet potato and rutabaga fries baked in the oven. I had 2 rutabagas from my co-op box and I had no idea what I should do with them. I found this idea online and they came out pretty tasty! I also had a Sunshine burger on one slice of sprouted grain bread with mustard, tomato, avocado and of course Bubbie's raw pickles!T was working near his parents house this week and was kind enough to pick me up a raw meal from my favorite health food store. These are raw Flautas with a raw relish on the side. As you know, I love Mexican food, especially in the raw! These were awesome! So tasty!
He also brought me a mini raw cacao mint chip pie! I had half that night and the other half the next day. I am trying to stay away from cacao/chocolate, but this was so amazing!!! Mint and chocolate, I couldn't resist!
I loved that the ingredient list was so short and simple! Last night I had a dream about raw cheesecake! HA HA! Don't ask me why.. I've never even had one! I might have to make one this weekend! :)
What are your weekend plans? Anyone else off next week? Enjoy and have a lovely one all! XO!

P.S. If you haven't noticed on the sidebar, I signed up for Formspring! You can ask me anything! Well, maybe not ANYTHING! ;)

Busy Weekend, lots of adventures!

Happy Monday All! :) What a beautiful first weekend of Spring in the North East! I even have a slight tan from spending so much time outdoors. I have a ton of pictures so I will make this brief!

On Friday afternoon, I made myself a Green OJ: Kale and Minneola Oranges. The oranges came in my co-op box and they unbelievably sweet! I love them!
Saturday morning, T, Ginger and I went for an hour long walk. My 2 neighbors (10 and 7 years old, tagged along). They are real characters! If you read my tweets, I mention them every once in awhile. They are incredibly street smart (the 7 year old has been riding a 2 wheel bike since he was 4 and even does skateboard jumps). They are exactly how kids should be: they play outside and get dirty! A little wild, but adorable and funny at the same time. So here is the 7 year old on a tree that fell in the woods..he was probably 8 feet off the ground!
When we had that big storm last weekend this tree fell, so incredible. This is right down the street from me and we didn't even hear it. You know the saying..
On Saturday, T and I went to Hoboken for the day. Hoboken is right outside of NYC but still in NJ. T has an aunt that lives there, so we go and hang out every once in awhile. We went to a place called the Pita Cafe?? I am not sure that is the right name, but I ordered a salad with falafel on top. I HEART falafel so much!
When we were in Hoboken, we walked A LOT! We went down to the river and I took this picture of the NYC skyline, so beautiful.
Sunday morning we went into NYC. As a lot of you know from last Spring, T and I like to go in early on Sunday mornings when there isn't any traffic. We can fly in, in just 30 minutes! This time T suggested we go to Peacefood Cafe, since it is pretty close to Central Park. I told T that I remember Gena talking about Peacefood on her blog and it sounds like a good place. Well, guess who was there eating--GENA! :) What an ironic, wonderful surprise! It was so nice to see her and hug her again. She was with a client so we only talked briefly, but well worth it!

I ordered the Fluffy Quinoa salad: beans, baby greens & sprouts, avocado, sweet peppers, corn & onions, tossed with creamy lime mustard vinaigrette. It was very delicious! I also had a green lemonade: greens, apple, lemon, ginger. All of my favorites! T had the tempeh sandwich and chickpea fries. I had a few bites of the fries and they were amazing! He says he can make them at home, I'd like to see him try! HA HA!
We walked around Central Park, went to FAO Schwarz (T is a child at heart, but aren't we all?), stopped by a flea market and walked some more. I took this picture in Central Park, what a beautiful day!
Of course we went to Strawberry Fields (my favorite spot in Central Park). I love the Beatles and this is such a peaceful serene place.
When we got home we were both hungry from all the walking (I am going to say like 6 miles?). I had some zucchini, potatoes and fresh rosemary from my co-op box, baked it all in the oven and voila--dinner!
For dessert, 2 macaroons I took home from Peacefood Cafe, one regular and one chocolate dipped. I am a big macaroon fan (especially raw ones), these weren't raw, but they were vegan and totally decadent and delicious! Of course I shared with T and he agreed! Nom, nom, nom!
Have a nice day all!

Love Street Living Foods Review

Hey All! Happy Sunny-Spring! :) I am doing a special post today because a few weeks back, the people of Love Street Living Foods sent me a whole array of chocolate samples to try. I FINALLY got to trying everything and thought it was time for a review!
They sent me 2 chocolate spreads: Chocolate Coconut and Chocolate. I LOVE these spreads! Holy veggies, these were amazing!! So rich and thick! Perfect on slices of fruit. I had some on a banana and apples, then I pretty much ate from the container (which wasn't easy, sticking a spoon in those small glass jars). :) I still have some left, I hope to put the rest over some homemade raw ice cream in the near future. I will definitely post pictures!

100% Organic Raw Vegan Chocolate Superfudge: This was my favorite! I loved that the inside was soft and fudgey--almost like a truffle. Two thumbs up here!

100% Organic Vegan Chocolate with Goji berries
: My second favorite. I love that all of these bars are really crispy, and decadent. The goji one had a that something extra that I love in a chocolate bar. I always go for bars with berries or nuts inside, so this was right up my alley!

Coconut Crystal Chocolate Bar
: This one was okay. I didn't notice any coconut flavor, but still tasty in it's own way. Again, I love the crisp factor. Also, all of these bars are perfect portion sizes. Each bar is only 1 oz. This makes it easy not to over eat, like I usually do with chocolate. (Hey, I am surprised these even lasted as long as they did!). ;)

Organic Vegan Chocolate
: I would say this is their standard chocolate, probably the one you would be able to tell the flavor most from since it doesn't have anything extra added. I enjoyed this bar a lot, but not as much as the first two.

Love Street Living Foods chocolate is very tasty and I would say "different" from other raw chocolates. Light, crispy and flavorful. Probably not my favorite brand. But, if I saw it in my Whole Foods, I would pick it up over a non-raw chocolate like Endangered Species or Greens and Black.

The people at Love Street are also offering a d
iscount to Ginger is the New Pink readers! 10% off your entire order plus 3 free samples at http://www.lovestreetlivingfoods.com
Enter the coupon code:
GNPLoveSt
Valid from Sunday, March 21 - Thursday, March 25
Please write in the "Order Comments" box during checkout which samples you would like from the list there

**Note: I read on a review from Kristen's Raw, that some of these bars aren't 100% raw. As you know, I do not follow 100% raw, so these bars were fine for me.

Sunshine, All The Time, Please?

Hey Sunshine Loves!! These last few days have been so amazing! Sunshine just does something to my soul! I've spent most of the days outside, on a lawn chair, with Ginger on my lap. She likes to put her head on my tummy and barking at any noise that isn't Mother Nature. She is so sweet! She just loves being outside, and so do I! Speaking of sunshine, this is what I call, "sunshine in a glass": Kale Stems, Romaine, Apple, Lemon, Celery. Look at the natural sunlight on this plate of goodness! This was baked butternut squash with broccolini and lots of garlic!
Ginger has been taking some loooong walks! This was after a very long one the other night, she was very pooped, as you can see! Look at that belly! By the way, she is going to be 4 years old on April 5th! She told me to tell everyone that she excepts cash and bones only. HA HA!I am craving thick smoothies lately! Actually, probably since I got Lafayette, my Vitamix! He just knows how to make them right! This one was: Raspberries, Strawberries, Romaine, Spirulina, Bananas, Maca, Flax, Acai Powder, Vanilla Sunwarrior Protein and Almond milk! YUM!
When we were outside yesterday, I was sipping on this: Romaine, Parsley, Apple and Lemon: more green for ya! :) I wonder if my neighbors thought I was drinking a martini gone bad?! He he!
For dinner last night I had a big salad from our favorite salad place. This was: Romaine, Mushrooms, Chickpeas, Olives, Broccoli and Shredded Zucchini and Carrots.
Along side I had a cup of Vegan Split Pea soup! Ginger licked the container clean when I was done, I guess she likes peas!
Now, for the winner of the Snubbr.com Raw Chocolate giveaway..... Tyrah of Domestic Dharma! Great blog, by the way! Happy St. Patrick's Day: Green Juice on Me!

Happy St. Patrick's Day all! :)

I will be celebrating with green juice, a green smoothie and some broccolini later! :) Are you doing anything fun today? I am not a drinker, so this isn't my holiday of choice. I am sure most of my high school/Facebook friends will be posting drunk sloppy pictures of themselves tomorrow, lol, not me!

Anyway, I've been feeling really great. I don't want to jinx it but my Crohn's has been at bay for awhile now! Phew! Let's hope it stays away!!

Earlier this week, I made a yummy kale salad with leftover hummus, lemon juice, olive oil and raw pickles. On the side I baked a sweet potatoes and added some black beans on top. Currently, I am obsessed with Cumin! I put it on everything! So I added that to the beans and salad!
Yesterday was beautiful here!! Today should be more of the same! Bye-bye rain: HELL-OOO Sunshine! We took Ginger for a long walk yesterday afternoon. She's gotta lose her Winter weight. HA HA!
For dinner I made some quinoa with broccoli. I added coconut oil, Bragg's, Curry Powder, and of course CUMIN! Perfect meal in a bowl!
Lastly, don't forget to vote everyday for Crazy Sexy Life in the Treehugger.com awards in Health and Food category!

Also check out this new and funny vegan blog: Kiss My Grass! It guarantees a good laugh!
I also wanted to share with you all this awesome live camera of a hummingbird who is laying on it's nest waiting for her eggs to hatch. The live stream is on all day. I've become obsessed! Yesterday, a big lizard came into the screen and I've never been so nervous in my life!!! Thank God the hummingbird came back and scared it away before it took her eggs! Phew! I check in on her every so often, her name is Phoebe, but I like the name Hummus: The Hummingbird better! :)
Unfortunately, there hasn't been any sign of her today. The lizard may have made her jump ship. She did take one of the eggs with her. I am still hoping she comes back!

Don't forget to enter my raw chocolate giveaway! You have until Friday to get your entrees in!

Did someone order RAIN?

Hey Everyone! I hope you all had a nice weekend, we had rain, rain, rain and more rain!! Did I mention RAIN? Ugh! So T and I stayed in and watched movies most of the weekend. Now Daylight Savings is kicking my butt! I can't wake up in the dark!!

Anyway, the kind people at Navitas sent me some samples this weekend. Cacao Nibs, a water bottle, Acai Powder and Organic Palm Sugar. The Cacao Nibs are sweetened. I wasn't too crazy about that, but I am sure they will come in use (right now I am cutting back on chocolate, due to the caffeine). I love the Acai Powder, I've been using it in my smoothies. As for the Palm Sugar, I haven't used this yet. I am sure I will use it when I bake, but as you can see, I barely do that! Maybe T will use it in coffee? For dinner Friday night, I wasn't in the mood for a normal meal, instead I cut up some broccoli and carrots and dipped them in hummus and guacamole. This was a great high-raw dinner!
I also made some date balls over the weekend. I used my own recipe, that I made up as I went along.

Lauren's Date Balls:

2 cups of dates
1 tablespoon of flax
1/4 cup coconut flakes (I used raw unsweetened)
1 teaspoon of cinnnamon
1 drop of vanilla extract (or vanilla bean)
1/2 tablespoon acai powder (optional)

Mix in food processor and roll into balls. Refrigerate for an hour or so. I also added cacao nibs on the top of a few for T.
Don't forget to vote for CrazySexyLife.com in the TreeHugger.com Best of Green Awards in the Food and Health category! You can vote daily until April 2!! I will keep posting this as a reminder! ;)

Have a nice day!

Books, Beauty, Dinners

Hey Everyone! Thank you all for your condolences on my not going to last show of the new cast of Hair! No worries though, I did see it less then a month ago! :) So I am okay!

Here's what I've been up too.. reading: Skinny Bitch: Bun in the Oven and The Natural Pregnancy book and of course my newest journal that says "Peace is always beautiful"--love it!
P.S. I am not pregnant, yet, just prepping..
I also placed another order with 100% Pure, yes, I am obsessed! Here's what I got: a free mascara (gift with purchase), Honey Coconut Milk Shampoo and Conditioner (these are not vegan because they do contain honey, I do use honey on occasion and in products as long as it comes from local farms or companies that I know are eco friendly), Coconut lotion and body wash, and a face mask that is made with seaweed! Loves these products, the coconut stuff smells amazing, I just want to eat it!!
Here is a huge kale salad I had for dinner the other night: Kale, Brad's Raw chips, a Sunshine Burger, Bubbies Raw Pickles, Raw cauliflower mashed like potatoes (recipe here), avocado, cherry tomatoes and lemon juice.
I also made this for dinner one night: lentils with chickpeas, spinach and crushed tomatoes. This was really filling and I was starving, so it hit the spot!
Have a nice day everyone! Come back Friday for my next giveaway!! :)

A Hair-less Weekend

Hello Sweet-peas! I hope you all had a wonderful, sunny weekend! The weather was beautiful here! It was so nice to bring Ginger for a long walk two days in a row. Nice weather makes me so incredibly happy as does being outdoors again! Unfortunately T and I didn't get to go to see the last show with the new original cast of Hair. The tickets were a little too steep for us right now (especially with baby on the brains). Oh well, hopefully they will have a reunion show in 6 months when they get back from London (ha, wishful thinking). So here is the smoothie of the day: : Frozen Mango, Pomegranate Seeds, Banana, Kale, Spirulina, Flax, Coconut Milk, Vanilla Sunwarrior. As many of you noticed, I like my smoothies THICK! Thank goodness for Glass Dharma's smoothie size straws, this thick richness slurps right up!T and I did made a trip out west to one of our favorite health food stores. The place in about an hour away, but it is in the "country" (if you can say that about NJ), so the ride is beautiful and carefree! I picked up some Indian flavored Brad's Raw Chips--I've never had this flavor, totally flavor-packed and delicious! Also, I grabbed Go Raw Ginger Snaps (HEAVEN!!!) and an old favorite: Go Raw Live Granola.
A better shot of Ginger, holding on to her bone on Daddy's lap! She was a little happier since this was taken later on in the day. She isn't a fan of the morning shots! She is such a little diva!
Yesterday, T and I wanted to check out this place we heard of called "The Hippie Shop." The place was about 30 minutes away, too bad they were closed!! AHH!!! Hopefully we will make another trip soon, this place looked so cool!
I love buying hippie stuff, when we re-do our basements, I plan on making it a meditation room/gym/retro 60's-70's style! My twitter friends know what a hippie I am! I think I surprise many of them with the songs I know from that decade. I grew up listening to that music from my parents, and my mother was a total flower child, so it's in my blood. Plus, I am positive in a past life I was hippie! Or as Earthmother says, I was born 20 years to late!
Have a nice Monday everyone!!! PEACE AND LOVE! ;)
