Diaper talk, Garden Update and Cravings!

Hey All, happy Wednesday! I hope you are having a great week so far! I am really looking forward to the long weekend! Lots of baby stuff on my mind lately. I'm looking into Hynobirthing for my hospital birth. I am also questioning diapering methods. I was planning on using cloth, but I keep getting bad feedback. Many people do it for a short period of time and find that it gives the baby diaper rash or it's just too much work. The only other option would be chlorine free organic, but the price is ridiculous! So, I guess we will see, of course I have some months to think about this more. If you are a mom what method did you use? Any tips or advice would be great!

Anyway, I wanted to update you all on our garden! Here is a picture from when we first planted in the beginning of May! This picture was taken yesterday..
Our kale is really thriving!! Remember this picture, from when it was in the ground for a couple of weeks?
We also planted some rose bushes that are already blooming!
And we have a fig on our fig tree (actually, we have 4!). They still have some time to ripen!
Last year we planted a cherry tree and we didn't get any fruit. This year we have a ton of cherries coming in!
I love eating produce grown in my yard and planted with love from T and I! There is so much good energy in it!

Anyway, onto food, I had this little snack one day earlier this week: Livin Spoonful Raw Crackers, Go Raw Pizza Flax Snax and Brad's Raw Kale Chips with hummus.
A plate of sunshine: organic oranges! A lovely snack one afternoon!
For dinner one night I made a big kale salad and added in the left over Raw Pad Thai from Candle 79. I also topped it with some Italian Fried Greens, an idea I got from Gena. I used quinoa. YUM!
I had a serious craving for strawberries this week! After T picked up this edible Jersey magazine in Whole Foods, I couldn't get my mind off of them! Just look at how beautiful that strawberry on the cover is! I picked up some organic strawberries Monday afternoon after I just couldn't take it anymore! I hope to go strawberry picking soon!
Have a great day everyone! It is going to be in the 90's here today! I am about 20 degrees hotter now that I am pregnant. I am usually the cold one with the cold hands and feet.. not anymore! I am finding the heat to be unbearable! Can't wait for August! ;)

Hi there! I don't have a baby yet so I can't speak to them personally, but I plan on trying G Diapers when I do have a kid. www.gdiapers.com I think it looks like a great compromise between cloth and disposable. Love the blog! :)

I'm obviously not a mom myself, but my sister-in-law used cloth diapers for both her kids for the whole time. She was really happy with them, even though it was definitely a lot of work. In instances when they were traveling (they went to Florida and Hawaii while the one was a baby) she used the organic unbleached disposables. Thinking of you, hope you're feeling good!

What a gift you are giving your child taking the time to so thoughtfully make decisions like this for them! My kids are 7 and 10yrs old and I just want not in that place with them 10 yrs ago. I would do it this way if I had to do it all over again!

Your going to be such a thoughtful and amazing mom!! You already are!!

Isn't amazing to be able to pick and eat from your own backyard!?

I've been craving strawberries too. They've been really good in the NW this year.

Your salad looks really good!

It's in the 50's and rainy here in Seattle. Maybe you should visit and cool off :)

i know, it's hot here in jersey! it's supposed to cool off this weekend.=)

have you heard of elimination communication? i don't have children but plan to try that with cloth diapers if/when i do.

love your garden and fruit trees. we just planted a fig tree - hope to see some fruit this season like yours!

I'll second the G Diapers comment. I have a teenage step-daughter instead of a baby, but if my husband and I decide to have a child, that's the route I'm going. They seem to becoming more easily available too.

The garden looks great!

Those diapers are sooooooo expensive! I was amazed! Some of them don't hold liquid so well when the baby starts to really become mobile either. Not like regular diapers.

i've been eating strawberries like crazy too.

that is interesting that people said the cloth gives babies more rash. my mom told me i had to use cloth because the regular gave me a rash.

happy gardening!

Girlie, your garden looks greeeaaatt!!! Loving the kale, and esp the fig tree!

Hypnobirthing - that sounds really neat. Sounds like something that I might be interested in when the time comes. I look forward to hearing about your experience.

Have a fab day beautiful mama! :) XO

Your garden is looking great! How cool to have cherries growing in your yard.
I love the heat but when I was pregnant through those summer months, I just couldn't take it. Stay cool!

Oh my goodness! I bought the go raw pizza crackers the other day and went to pizza heaven. If I thought those crackers were that amazing I can't wait to try the pumpkin pesto ones you love so much!....too bad raw crackers are so expensive :(

your posts always make me so happy! i'm so jealous of your fig tree, Lauren. my mom gave me a part of my grandmother's fig tree to plant and it never made it past a few weeks. :( one day i'll have figs of my own. i will, i WILL! ah ha ha! the raw cracker 'n hummus plate you've got going on totally gave me a craving for some. i need to get a move on making some raw crackers or stopping by the store to get some until i can make my own. the italian fried greens sound wonderful & i loooove that happy plate o' oranges. strawberries, oh my - i love them so much, but my stomach and them totally disagree. makes me sadfaced. maybe i'll just deal with a little upset tummy because i do love me some strawberry awesomenesses!

happy almost-friday, Lauren! keep on smiling and keep on do'n what you're do'n to your garden - it looks great!

Don't feel bad if you do not go with the cloth diapers. I couldn't get the family on board to use them with Hayden either.

I'm ridiculously envious of your figs! I must get some fig trees!

I'm a mom and a grandmom. I used regular diapers and my daughter also uses regular on her kids. I read tons of info on both kinds when I was expecting and even back then there were all sorts of conflicting opinions. I've read that the environmental impact is about the same for both. It seems like the regular would be the easiest, I certainly found them convenient. Though elimination communication idea sounds really interesting.

I continue to hear awesome things about cloth diapering and even though we're going to practice EC, we will use some cloth diapers as well as we EC.

You probably know I'm doing hypnobirthing. I'll let you know how it goes. :)

XOXO,
Kristen

Love, love, love my cloth diapers!!! They are so easy to use too! There are many kinds and it can be overwhelming but I recommend kissaluvs and thirsties covers for a newborn. You can rent the kissaluvs from Nell's Natural Baby. Then go with bum genius 4.0's which will fit from 10 lbs to potty trained. I can't say enough good things about these diapers. And, if you're anywhere near Sussex County, our local holistic moms group is having a hypnobirthing therapist come Thursday evening at 7 pm! It's at the Tri Co building in the community room in the back in Augusta on rt 206.

Thanks Maria! I am in Union County, but I have heard of the Holistic Mom Network, I receive their emails! :) I'm checking out those diapers now!!
