Busy Weekend, lots of adventures!
Happy Monday All! :) What a beautiful first weekend of Spring in the North East! I even have a slight tan from spending so much time outdoors. I have a ton of pictures so I will make this brief!
On Friday afternoon, I made myself a Green OJ: Kale and Minneola Oranges. The oranges came in my co-op box and they unbelievably sweet! I love them!
Saturday morning, T, Ginger and I went for an hour long walk. My 2 neighbors (10 and 7 years old, tagged along). They are real characters! If you read my tweets, I mention them every once in awhile. They are incredibly street smart (the 7 year old has been riding a 2 wheel bike since he was 4 and even does skateboard jumps). They are exactly how kids should be: they play outside and get dirty! A little wild, but adorable and funny at the same time. So here is the 7 year old on a tree that fell in the woods..he was probably 8 feet off the ground!
When we had that big storm last weekend this tree fell, so incredible. This is right down the street from me and we didn't even hear it. You know the saying..
On Saturday, T and I went to Hoboken for the day. Hoboken is right outside of NYC but still in NJ. T has an aunt that lives there, so we go and hang out every once in awhile. We went to a place called the Pita Cafe?? I am not sure that is the right name, but I ordered a salad with falafel on top. I HEART falafel so much!
When we were in Hoboken, we walked A LOT! We went down to the river and I took this picture of the NYC skyline, so beautiful.
Sunday morning we went into NYC. As a lot of you know from last Spring, T and I like to go in early on Sunday mornings when there isn't any traffic. We can fly in, in just 30 minutes! This time T suggested we go to Peacefood Cafe, since it is pretty close to Central Park. I told T that I remember Gena talking about Peacefood on her blog and it sounds like a good place. Well, guess who was there eating--GENA! :) What an ironic, wonderful surprise! It was so nice to see her and hug her again. She was with a client so we only talked briefly, but well worth it!
I ordered the Fluffy Quinoa salad: beans, baby greens & sprouts, avocado, sweet peppers, corn & onions, tossed with creamy lime mustard vinaigrette. It was very delicious! I also had a green lemonade: greens, apple, lemon, ginger. All of my favorites! T had the tempeh sandwich and chickpea fries. I had a few bites of the fries and they were amazing! He says he can make them at home, I'd like to see him try! HA HA!
We walked around Central Park, went to FAO Schwarz (T is a child at heart, but aren't we all?), stopped by a flea market and walked some more. I took this picture in Central Park, what a beautiful day!
Of course we went to Strawberry Fields (my favorite spot in Central Park). I love the Beatles and this is such a peaceful serene place.
When we got home we were both hungry from all the walking (I am going to say like 6 miles?). I had some zucchini, potatoes and fresh rosemary from my co-op box, baked it all in the oven and voila--dinner!
For dessert, 2 macaroons I took home from Peacefood Cafe, one regular and one chocolate dipped. I am a big macaroon fan (especially raw ones), these weren't raw, but they were vegan and totally decadent and delicious! Of course I shared with T and he agreed! Nom, nom, nom!
Have a nice day all!

Running into your beautiful tan self was most def my weekend highlight!!! Yay! So nice to exchange hugs. Hopefully we'll get to do it again soon.
In the meantime, beautiful, local, fresh dinner!!
The photos look lovely. The spring is finally showing itself over here in the UK too so Tom (the hubby) and I have been making the most of it by going for walks. The only thing that's missing is a dog. One day...
How fun to run into Gena!
What a beautiful weekend you as well.
It sounds like you live in a nice area to raise kids. That's what I love about where we live now, the kids ride their bikes, go into the creek, get dirty and all of that fun kid stuff!
love your skyline pics. i see a few green buds on those trees. happy spring!
i used to play outside in the woods all the time. best place to be when it's nice out.
now remember you must go back to lucky duck and get a picture of that cadbury egg!
Green OJ in a martini glass... My kind of breakfast!
I've had many an adventure in Hoboken myself. My college roommate moved there after graduation. Fun times!
What a kick that you ran into Gena in the city. Small (raw) world.
I love the tree climber! That would be a fun climbing adventure
Hi Sis, long time since I have commented :) Just stopping by to say I am having serious food-envy! I will be in St. Thomas with all the Rastas (all VEGAN), so I should feel very much at home :) Can't wait to go to Candle when I get back :) Miss you, love you, and send me some treats :)
Sounds like you had a great weekend! That is so awesome that you ran into Gena :) Quinoa salad looks great
