60 years, Loaf, Ginger, Prenatals

Happy Friday Everyone!!!

Thank you all for the sweet comments. I am feeling a little better. But I am having a hard time with food lately. I like eating a more cooked diet, but I can't seem to figure out breakfast. I like oatmeal, but I am not crazy about it. This morning I tried to have a green smoothie and it came out terrible, my blender is so horrible. I also want to get green juice back into my diet, but not for breakfast. I think a balance is what I need.

Today is my grandparents 60th Wedding Anniversary!!! WOWZA! I hope T and I are both well and kicking for ours! :) Like I've said in the past, my grandparents are so young at heart (Naunee does jazzercise, Pop still works like he is a 30 year old!). On Sunday we are all going to brunch to celebrate. I was told that I would be taking care of food wise, which probably means a soggy carrot and some fruit. Ha ha!

Anyway, for lunch one day this week I lightly sauteed some kale with bean sprouts and curry powder and put it on a brown rice wrap with avocado and hummus, this was the best sandwich I have made in awhile! YUM!
For dinner one night I tried to make a loaf from lentils, brown rice, carrots, celery, walnuts, parsley and seasonings but when I cut into it, it turned out like this. It was still delicious and very tasty, but not a loaf! Oh well!
Here she is, the ultimate healer. Ginger's love it one of the things that keeps me going when I am not feeling well, she always makes me smile. Look at that face, how could you not smile?
The people from Vitamin Code were kind enough to contact me and ask if I wanted to join a focus group and receive free raw prenatal vitamins from now until the end of my pregnancy (I am not pregnant YET, going to probably be awhile now since I am not feeling well). Anyway, after reading what Kristen said about Vitamin Code's raw prenatal vitamins, I was so excited to get started using them. I was using a different brand for about a year now, but I always wanted to try these. I love that they are in a capsule and have a ton of different nutrients in them (Hello, how many vitamins have sprouts in them?). I will keep you posted on these more as time goes on, but as of right now, I am super happy with them!
Does anyone watch True Blood? T and I got into it this season and decided to get the first season from Netflix to get the background of what happened previously. We are obsessed! I love this show, it has now become my favorite show ever! :) Have a nice weekend!

LOVE TRUE BLOOD! Slightly obsessed :) Wait until you get to Season 2...it gets super crazy then!

Do you like sweet or savory breakfasts? I tend to go for savory, but if I want sweet then I do green smoothies (I have a little magic bullet-like blender that I got at Target for about $15--works fine for smoothies) or a hot grain-type bowl (example: this morning I had breakfast quinoa with cinnamon, diced apples, walnuts & almond butter), but if I want savory then sometimes I just saute a bunch of veggies (onion, mushrooms, sweet potato, kale) and top it with tahini or something.

Here's a lentil loaf from VegNews that looks pretty good: http://www.vegnews.com/web/articles/page.do?pageId=239&catId=11 - you could easily make it GF with GF breadcrumbs.

Good luck and hope you start feeling 100% soon!

I have a hard time with breakfast too. My preference is green juice, but time to juice on a weekday isn't always there.

I've done mashed turnips and roasted Brussels sprouts, warm millet and soaked pumpkin seeds, or baked sweet potato and coconut oil.

Hi there
I am currently taking the raw prenatal vits. at the moment, and they seem to be great, although i haven't noticed much of a difference in how i feel. I did a comparison between these ones and the new chapter organic ones, and the big difference that i noticed was that the raw vitamin code ones don't contain iodine. I thought that iodine was pretty important for prenatal vits. so i'm now thinking of switching to the new chapter organic ones.

Sounds like you have the cutest g-parents ever!

Have you tried Quinoa flakes? It's a nice warm breakfast and quick to make. Also steel cut oats are better than the flakes, just my opinion. Vegan Yum Yum has a nice apple steel cut oat recipe. Now you can find quick cook steel cut oats.

Yet to watch True Blood - my friend has season 1 and 2 on DVD for me to borrow, I'm looking forward to it.
Happy Anniversary to G and G - your sammich looks super awesome and Ginger is super cute. She makes me smile too.
I'm a bit funny with breakfast, I know I should eat it 'cos EVERYONE says so but it's very very rare I feel like eating it.

Warm quinoa is lovely for breakfast. So is sprouted toast with avocado, banana with nut butter, raw granola with nutmilk! xoxo

your wanna-be loaf looks awesome! I would gladly help you eat it, anytime!

cool on the prenatals. I am always up for vitamin rec's for vites that are whole food vites or more natural not junky and highly processed. Cant wait to hear if you like them and what you notice.

The Kale wrap looks so yummy! Sorry nothing has been sounding good for breakfast, I do not always have an appetite first thing in the morning either. Finding balance is key, but not always easy to figure out. I think the lentil loaf looks good despite the crumbles.

I usually have a hard time eating breakfast at all since I often work so early I just roll out of bed, get dressed, and hop on my bike. But I try to drink green smoothies most of the time (been bad lately)... otherwise I like oatmeal or some other kind of porridge, at least in the winter months. Fruit salad is also tasty!

Nothing cuter than young at heart, in love grandparents!

I finally figured out how to do a link list on my blog, do you mind if I add your blog to my list?

that's so awesome on your grandparent's 60th anniversary, Lauren! wow!

i do enjoy me some true blood, it's my secret obsession. it's a fun show that's pretty darn entertaining, and i love looking at that vampire named erik. :)

i'm glad you're feeling a bit better, and i hope you're 100% soon.

hmmm - for breakfasts....lately i've been tossing 1/2 cup brown rice + 1 cup rice milk in a pan & simmering it for a good 10 minutes. (similar to one of the Kind Diet recipes) then i add in 1 chopped date, 1 tbsp goji berries, toasted pumkin seeds, hemp seeds, and i let it cook for another 2 minutes or so. pour into a bowl and top with a tsp of brown rice syrup and a tbsp of walnuts. it's so yum! sometimes i love a salad for breakfast topped with beans and squash and such, and i'm a big fan of green smoothies, too: a few handfuls of spinach, 1/2 banana, a little rice milk, walnuts, 1/2 cup oats, and a date or two. i also really enjoy apples & bananas cut up, tossed in a bowl, and topped with nut butter & hemp seeds. :)

i think the loaf crumbles look super yum! i have a tough time with meatless loaves, too - but i'm glad yours was delicious, even if it was crumbly.

your wrap is making me drool - it's full of so much awesome. oh my gosh, yay!

Naunee and Pop sound awesome...and 60 years is really something to celebrate! Soggy carrots and all!

That wrap sandwich look beautiful, what a good idea. And your lentil UN-loaf still looks absolutely delicious!

Prenatals! On your blog! Oooh, I am excited for you whenever it happens! In the meantime, feel better -- sending healing wishes to you.

Congrats to your grandparents! My parents are abut to celebrate their 40th. So much to learn from these amazing couples.

Too bad about the green smoothie. What did you try to put in it? I find I like fresh banana and frozen fruit. It seems to go ok in most blenders. And I add spinach or green powder when I am not using a high-speed blender. Good luck!

Happy Anniversay to your grandparents! They both sound adorable, I love young at heart couples:) Your kale wrap looks and sounds so good. Lentil dish also looks delicious, you don't need a loaf shape as far as it was tasty and delicious. Hope you're feeling better!

P.S. I love Ginger so much!!!

Can you tell us over time what you think of the pre-natals? I am interested in starting some in a few months and saw these on Kristen's blog as well. Hmmm... ;)
