Ginger Turtle

Hey Everyone!

I had a pretty rough week up until last night. I was even thinking about heading to the hospital but then around 4 o'clock yesterday I started feeling really good and got through most of the night!! Today I woke up feeling a little sick, but not at all close to how bad it has been. I think the steroids are kicking in. I want to start taking the new low risk medication but I have to be off of steroids first. Hopefully that will be in a month or so, since I have to wean. YUCK! I fully intend on doing a liver cleanse with herbs as soon as I am done with this round.

Anyway, T thought he would cheer me up earlier this week when he brought home a new Halloween costume for Ginger. She is usually a bumble bee, but she has grown out of it. So now she is going to be a turtle!
You can just tell how much she loves it! ;) No worries, we just keep it on for pictures, then she is free to be her mischievous self again. On Halloween we will put it on for the neighborhood kids to see. She just stands frozen whenever she has "clothes" on. It's so mean. I am a mean mommy!
I realized I haven't posted any pictures from my co-op boxes this Summer. I am a member year round, so I forget sometimes. This was this weeks box: green beans, eggplant, Swiss chard, lettuce, onions, peppers, potatoes, plum tomatoes, corn, Ginger Gold apples, carrots, bananas, nectarines and peaches. I haven't been eating nightshade veggies, so T will have to enjoy a lot of this box. I am so excited for Fall apples, YUM!
Since I haven't been feeling well, food has been hit or miss. One night I made Macaroni and Crease (gluten-free), and I added peas to it. The last time I had a box of this, it was pretty good. I was surprised that all the ingredients were natural and nothing artificial lurked inside. I would definitely buy this for my kids as a treat once in awhile. But, I won't be enjoying it again. For some reason, this time I wasn't a fan. The taste just stuck with me..blah!
Since I am feeling a lot better, this morning I made some brown rice hot cereal with apples, ginger, stevia, cinnamon and apple pie spice. The picture is ugly, but the taste was delicious! Next time I will use less ginger, it was a little strong for me.
Have a nice weekend everyone! I hope to rest and relax a little more so I can get strong and fight this disease again! I am seriously motivated!!
P.S. For any non-vegan's out there looking to try it out but need a little help, join Meghan's 5-day Vegan program starting September 15!

Ginger is so cute! At first I thought the costume was a caterpillar, whoops, I love turtles.
Sorry that you still aren't feeling well.
Talking about cleanses...have you tried any of Dr. Shulze's cleanses? They are really good, check him out at www.herbdoc.com
When I first took dairy out of my diet years ago,I had bathroom issues, I tried his bowel cleanse and it tottaly worked. It got my bowels working properly. Anyways, now that I'm vegan I don't have those issues anymore but back then I needed a kick start. He has liver and kidney cleanes as well.

i'm sorry you were feeling crappy again, Lauren - but i'm relieved to hear you're feeling better again! i hope you continue to feel better & get stronger!

that's too funny that Ginger freezes with her costumes on. i had a super old chihuahua named Penne that i adopted from the spca when i worked there. i tried to put a sweater on her once because she would shiver on our walks when it was cool outside - i tried to get her to love it but she too would freeze! cracked me up. Ginger = the cutest turtle ever!

sorry the mac 'n cheeze was disappointing, but i think your brown rice breakfast looks great & sounds super comforting & a wonderful way to start your day!

i hope you, T, and Ginger have a stellar weekend!

Seeing Ginger in that costume can make anyone smile, and smiling (as well as a little laughter) is the best medicine. Hope you feel better soon.

Lauren, how are you feeling? Hope things are getting better for you -- you have lots of fans here in Blogland who wish you good health!

Ginger in the turtle suit is the cutest thing ever -- you can just tell by the look on her face she's thinking "Get this thing off me!"

Such a sweet furry baby :)

Ginger is so adorable in that thing! I better get on top of my dog's halloween outfits now. You've inspired me. :-)

Hope you start feeling better soon. Do nightshades tend to cause flare-ups?

I am loving that turtle costume!!! I could pick her up and squeeze her right now!

Are you able/willing to share teh brand of mac and cheese. This is one of my addictions that I really have to let go, but until I am able... What do you think made it not very good-tasting?
