My time to speak..

First of all, let me start by saying I am not talking about any blogs in particular, just the comments that are being made.

I really did not want to have to put another "rant" post out in the blog world, but I think it's time someone stands up for the raw foodiest that are being torn apart on many blogs. I understand why people are getting defensive over the soy controversy, but I don't understand why people are taking these posts and turning them into an all out bashing on raw foodies. I read many raw blogs and have yet to come across one that says you HAVE TO stop eating soy. If someone puts their own opinion on soy out there then that's their own right, if you don't like it, don't read it and don't comment. But instead people are going to the blogs that defend soy and ripping apart the raw community. The whole thing is being pinned on everyone who eats raw. Raw foodiest are being called pompous, "holier than thou", arrogant, and snobs. I have come across many people who eat raw and have yet to see one who carries this persona.

I think it’s pathetic for anyone to insult another person in a comment because of what they eat or believe in. I have never made anyone feel uncomfortable for their choices. Sorry if you feel that way.

We are all vegans isn’t that the most important thing?

Please do NOT comment on my blog if it’s going to be negative towards any diet or person. Feel free not to read or comment on my blog at all, if you think I am being “holier than thou.”

Thanks!

Sorry if I offended anyone, that was not the point of this post.

Hey girl
I hear ya, my motto is live and let live. My food is my business and I will share what I love.. but if someone chooses a different path, so be it. No need to bash.

Thanks for speaking out, Lauren!! I also have yet to discover a raw blog that demanded that anyone else abandon soy. xoxo

I've discovered that nothing brings up a person's "stuff" and raises their hackles more than food issues. Still, it doesn't excuse people bashing. Ever.

When I was a cheeseburger-eating milkshake-drinking gal, I thought most vegans I encountered were arrogant and holier than thou. What a difference a year makes.

Good for you!
I agree!
Sometimes topics spark a lot of emotion HUH?

it' time to "play nice" :)

I really think there is a lot to learn from EACH OTHER, raw foodies, vegans, and all other cuisines!

and isn't THAT the whole reason why we are here?

Happy Wednesday all!

wow... i just read (for the first time) about another raw-negative drama. craziness.

what irks me, is that there are those people who are going to judge. sometimes they are omnis, sometimes, they're vegans, and sometimes they are rawies. it's ridiculous to try and say that one group of people has a particular attitude... people are individuals, and each have their own judging or non-judging qualities. hopefully your post will keep the the judging crowd away, no matter their diet!

(whew... don't know where all that came from!)

Well said! I say, live and let live. No one should force their opinions or beliefs on another person. Thank you for addressing this problem. And don't worry... I still think you're awesome! :-)

The funny thing is, I have found the raw foodies and strictest vegans to be the most open minded and accepting of other bloggers food choices! Its these anonymous commenters who have the holier than thou attitude.

I don't always read all the comments on blogs before I comment, so I haven't noticed any negative ones but I can't understand why people feel the need to pick on ppl's personal opinions, everyone makes their own choices.

Your blog is great so just keep on blogging away, Lauren!

that is so dumb!

When people get defensive about "us," they are just insecure, and perhaps even, we scare them a bit because they are not so healthy. Who cares about what we eat if it makes us healthy and happy? This diet promotes health and that is what we are looking for... not an excuse to think we are better.

Hi Lauren, I was totally unaware of this controversy, until I read this post. There are some great points you make. I say use soy if you'd like and if not don't. Simple.

lauren~ thank you for your comment "We are all vegans isn’t that the most important thing?". yes! i am happy that you filtered through all the stuff and brought it all back to what is important. it is the most simple, yet fundamental thread that weaves this community together. you are awesome!

I love your blog!! Veggie Girl and I have discussed this countless times...people are ignorant and uneducated about what RAW means and stands for as it's probably one of the more complicated diets. I love the concepts though, and after encorporating so many principles- I feel better than ever.

When I made my post defending soy, it was actually in regards to many "regular" bloggers/readers (not ness. raw food eaters)- since I believe it is a great food!

In the end, it's not about food..it's about manners and respect.

Take care Lauren!!! :)

I get negative comments (though most often email) quite frequently. Which is simply silly to me since I have never really disclosed how I eat beyond saying that I eat whole foods. I get rude comments on my videos, harassing mail and emails from processed food industry people and most often, highly defensive and critical emails from dieticians (v. different from natural nutrition).

The way I see it, if I say something that affects someone to the point that they need to go on the attack- I have done my job in making them think about either the way they sustain their health, support their own personal or planetary welly being or how they conduct themselves in a professional manner in regards to health care.

I come from an advertising back ground where we would say that bad publicity is better than no publicity. I would say a negative comment is better than no comment- at least we made someone feel something... we just can't ever take it personally. Other people's insecurities and negativities have nothing to do with us.

I don't think that it is most important for everyone to give themselves the same label as it pertains to the diet they keep (veggie, vegan, raw etc). What is most important is our honesty and integrity in which we communicate our own truths, and share our experiences.

Oof. I can really relate to this post. Just last month I was slammed on several forums and sites...just because of what I eat! Add to that the fact that I have 5 high raw kids, and well, the Mean People came out in droves to comment on our crunchy lifestyle :)

To each his own and all that -- no one should hurl insults because of food choices!
